Finally! I promised I would start a blog in 2015. And here it is. Now I need to figure out how to do this.
Why did I call this “1000 Words”? My idea was to set up a photo gallery. And a photo is supposed to be worth 1000 words, right? But what appeals to me as much as taking and sharing pictures is sharing the story behind those images – how I felt, what I learned, why I took this particular picture. While it is true that each image is supposed to tell its own story, I think words can add more depth. Besides, I spent much of my professional life writing. So….
What can you expect to see? Travel pictures and stories mostly. But also lots of flowers, landscapes, cityscapes, experiments (like when I try a new – to me – photography technique). I hope to post once every week or two. Less when I’m traveling, of course. Just enough to keep you interested. Not too much to bore you or overwhelm me.
So…. here, I hope, is the first picture. (And after this, the posts will be more coherent.) We recently traveled to Africa – Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania to be exact. It was a FABULOUS trip. When we arrived at Kirurumu Ngorongoro Camp, Tanzania, we were greeted by zebra grazing in “our front yard.” They were a little shy, but as I sat in a chair near the campfire site, they wandered close enough for me to get some great shots. I’ll add a few of those soon. But for today, here is one of our greeting committee.
